3x3 Juneteenth Jamboree Nationally Televised, Success

FIBA 3x3 basketball will debut as an Olympic sport in 2021

The Black News Channel (BNC) wrapped up its multi-day nationally televised Juneteenth coverage including a live presentation of the championship rounds of Kevin Garnett’s Hoop It Up Juneteenth Jamboree, which took place on Sunday at Marietta High School in Atlanta.

The national telecast reached 52 million homes and by all accounts was a huge success.

“FIBA 3x3 hoops is a new and exciting brand of basketball, it’s now an Olympic sport and there's no better ambassador or platform to help growth the interest and participation in 3x3 basketball than Kevin Garnett and Hoop It Up, said 3x360 founder and managing member, Drew Dawson, who was on hand to help see its success. “3x360 and all Hoop It Up licensees want to thank the BNC for making the Hoop It Up Jamboree a part of their nationally televised Juneteenth coverage.”

Play-by-play coverage of the 3-on-3 Pro Am basketball tournament was provided by BNC’s Anthony Amey, formerly with ESPN, and NBA TV analyst Sam Mitchell. BNC correspondent, Aiyana Cristal, reported from the sidelines of this new and exciting brand of basketball.

The Dreamchasers beat out Sciatica 21-14 in the Women’s Pro Am championship game. National Hoop It Up Director, Dan Cramer, presented the team with their trophy.

“Their name is Dreamchasers, which is perfect for our first event of the year of Kevin Garnett’s Hoop It Up 3×3 basketball tournament(s),” Cramer tells Cristal. “It’s great to have these women participate and be a part of the whole event.”

ELW Takeover beat out No Name Nashville 13-11 in the Men’s Pro Am championship game. Earlier in the day, ELW, a team supported and entered by former New York Knick, Eddie Lee Wilkins, defeated both the Georgia Kangaroos (21-13) and 3Ball Minnesota (21-17) in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.

3Ball Minnesota was ranked among the top FIBA 3x3 teams in the nation coming into Sunday’s action.

The Hoop It Up Pro Am champion will qualify for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour, which offers over $1 million in annual prize money and a pathway to earn FIBA 3x3 points, and potentially qualify for Olympic 3x3 trials.

NBA Hall of Famer, Kevin Garnett, acquired Hoop It Up in 2019. The NBA legend hopes his acquisition and the expansion of Hoop It Up will add to its thirty-two year history of connecting communities through the sport of 3-on-3 basketball. Garnett hopes to give players, who compete in Hoop It Up’s FIBA 3x3 sanctioned tournaments, an alternative pathway to competing in college or the NBA.

In 2020, Hoop It Up made 3x360 one of its largest licensees, establishing 3x360 as one of the nation’s biggest brand activation and event operators of Hoop It Up, helping to expand the Hoop It Up’s iconic 3x3 street festivals, Pro Am tournaments and regional 3x3 leagues throughout the eastern United States.
